Youll need a 10mm, 13mm, and 17mm wrench and support the front end on stands.
1) Remove the rod shifter linkage from the tranny with the 10mm. 2) Remove the support rod that attaches above the linkage with the 17mm. 3) Drop the rod shifter assembly from the support at the rear of the shifter. 13mm 4) Remove the shifter from the car and get to a suitable working area. 5) With a 4" grinder remove the factory rivets at the clevis. 6) Take center "bolt" to Home Depot and get a replacement bolt, locknut, and about 4 nylon washers. 7) Throughbolt the clevis and using the nylon washers take up the slack between the two clevis components. 8) I put a little grease on the bushings before tightening the nut down. 9) Reinstall into car in reverse order as removal. Enjoy a gutentight rod shifter!

What I did was drop the rod linkage from the tranny via 10mm bolt...then I took a hack saw / whatever can fit in there to cut...and I cut through the stock riveted bolt that holds the pivoting linkage onto the rod...
After that I removed the stock bolt, took out the linkage, and drilled the rivet out. After that I installed the new bolt with a washer on each side of the rod in between it and the linkage, tightened it good, and reinstalled the linkage... Total time, about an hour. Cost: $0 because I found the bolt, washers, and nut in the garage.

Once you climb up under the car it's really self explanatory, but I drilled my old rivet/pin/thing out with a 3/8's drill bit. then used some 5/16's vacum line around the new bolt to snug it up, it was kind of hard to make it fit back in since the 5/16's vucum line had to stretch to 3/8's, but in the end it worked out nicely. Then for the other bushing the washers worked well.

ya i modified mine before i installed it too, if your nylon washers are worn or cracked? i ended up using a pair of ford carbuerator washers used for the throttle cable. they just needed to be slid in there, and then i ended up putting the stock pin back in . to remove the pic i in fact used a grinder allowing enough so that i could just use a punch and punch the stock pin out, when i did the re-install i punched in back in and tack welded the end. but using a bolt may be easier for many due to not having access to a welder!

i also use steel rather then plastic washers when i do this mod, use some lube and snug the bolts just right and it has no slop yet shifts smooth.

I could have used this when i had my first Plus. The rod shifter in the car was sloppy as hell. For the longest time i thought it had a cable shifter until i learned how to tell which from which.
