Water pump replacement

    My new water pump came in yesterday for my 1994 MTX. I wanted to put it on myself tonight, but was wondering what all I would have to remove in order to get the water pump out. It would save me a lot of time to not take off extra parts just to put them back on. I know it wont be quick, but I do have to go to work on friday. :) Its making this nice grinding sound, and I figure it would be smart to replace it.

    Ah, water pump replacement. :) I did this about two months after I got my SHO, and at that time I knew less than nothing about car engines, and still managed to do it right. Of course, I had help from SHOtimes.com (and Natural Light :D ), so I wasn't completely in the dark.

    Depends on whether you got the whole unit or the partial reman. unit. I would say if you're going in there you should replace the main seal, timing belt and the crank position sensor since it's all right there already.

    In a little under 6 hours, and the new water pump is installed. Thanks for the links! It helped out a lot when I got stuck. :D

    Hey,

    I started about doing the CPS (crank sensor) and found a seeping water pump.

    I see a few options online. Does anyone have a newer working link to this water pump replacement proceedure. I got upper and lower timing covers off.

    I also am geared to replace the power steering pump, as I have power steering cut out intermittantly, I've had it also spray out the resevoir.

    It all looks like a pain. Can anyone respond with a picture and/or part number of water pump? I've seen different pictures on Rock Auto, and ebay.

    Can Crank seal be replaced without a fancy tool? Cam seals as well?

    I did get the balancer off! Holy PITA to break it loose. FYI, It is really RH threads, lol.

    I own a 1994 ATX 3.2L.

    You get the "Bumping The Deadest Thread Back To Life Award"! Eleven year bump. LOL

    In the future dont bump a thread like this one. Just start a new and go from there. Typically, if a thread has not been posted in for a over a year they want it to stay dormant.
